It’s a great idea, and surprisingly one that I’ve never seen home-ruled at the table. It’s good they took your advice, I think it will be a player-empowering change at the table.

I had posted such an idea back in 2014.

I don’t know if they were inspired by that or if it was parallel thinking, but either way, I’m happy to see it.

Hey Kristian,

To clarify, the names haven’t been mentioned in public yet, they are included in the beta draft of the SWADE playtest document. So we talked as much about them as we could, but the big reveal will be during the KS, by PEG.

Between running the largest gaming club in the Rocky Mountain West, putting on the two largest gaming cons, and publishing a new SW game setting, we’ve been pretty busy just with Savage Worlds stuff, let alone life stuff. So I can’t make any promises. We like doing the podcast and see no reason to stop, it’s just finding the time to meet and record and edit around all the other projects. I can honestly say that I don’t know off hand anyone else who spends more time promoting SW, producing SW content, and organizing SW events in the whole world, even people getting paid for it. We might be spreading ourselves a little thin, but hopefully what we do get out there is good.

We’re also striving to make better quality podcasts, so there’s a learning curve. We’ve purchased nicer mics and a sound board and better software and all that.

Meh, sorry, but I cannot take anything serious when it is said by a person who goes by the handle “Paco Jean”. I have RPGed since 1979. GMed since the 80’s. Could you possibly do a comparison of the products in sword & sorcery theme for SW? Beast & Barbarians by GRAmel vs Legends of Steel(SW version) by Evil DM Productions vs Lankhmar: City of Thieves by Pinnacle.

Hey Paco,

Thanks for clarifying your thoughts, there wasn’t much to go on in the actual audio so it’s good to have some rationale behind your position.

We approached it as an interesting question to ask and consider multiple sides of, instead of some “people are wrong on the internet!” so we appreciate you guys asking thought provoking questions. I personally enjoy debating interesting topics more than one-sided rah-rah positive-only sorts of podcasts/blogs that are basically just advertisements.

Keep up the good work on your podcast and happy new year to ya!

That is quite flattering. Thank you!

To clarify, I do not loathe the system, even though just a few words might be enough for someone to make anyone who doesn’t know me well think I do. SW is a system I have very little experience in and I have had mixed experiences, but I don’t loathe any system. I think loathing a system is kind of stupid.

And, also for the record, I don’t have a problem with the players or the GMs either. Jim might have his reasons and that would be for him to clarify, but to cannot say I don’t like SW players for the same reason I can’t say I don’t like D&D players…. there are all sorts of people playing those games and I am sure the majority are perfectly nice and decent people.

Hope this helps clarify the quoted dialogue and the tone of the podcast.

A SW GM is handed a setting and maybe, MAYBE, she gets a plot point campaign with adventure descriptions ranging from a few paragraphs to a couple of pages. Why? Because players and GMs own SW settings, not some candy-ass company that wants to “preserve the flavor” or protect the IP from “inappropriate” play. Savage GMs are trusted to get into the game and treat a setting with all the gentleness of a sex-starved orangutan. If you want a scripted, railroad adventure with all the originality of a McDonalds, there’s plenty to choose from. But if you want a game that evolves with the settings and which puts the “laughter” back into “slaughter”, you gotta go Savage.

I don’t know if it’s limited to the players/GMs. Listen to the tone in Paco Jean’s voice, he seems to loathe the system itself.

Sounds like some pretentious click bait at best, rude gamers at worst.

The actual play has been delayed by PEG for one reason: We played in the “Enter the Odd Squad” adventure which involves porting a number of extant Savage Worlds archetypes into RIFTS. Since this isn’t RIFTS-as-written and because PEG doesn’t want people’s first impression to be that Savage RIFTS is necessarily a crossover with other SW properties and not just an awesome option, they would like us to hold the episode.

We appreciate the concern, there are a lot of RIFTS fans who are new to SW who are very interested in the Kickstarter and they’d be lost and confused if the first actual play they hear has Deadlands and Weird Wars Rome and Accursed, etc. blended with Cyber Knights, Juicers, etc.

So Savage Worlds folks will not be lost, but RIFTS folks might get the wrong impression of what PEG is doing with RIFTS. So when we get the go ahead we’ll publish. Almost assuredly after the KS.
